90 Minutes to a Savory Steak Dinner
It was Doug & Shellie's turn to pick the location for our once-a-month dinner date and Doug followed through on a longtime threat. "Ever been to Lindley's in Seeley Lake?" We had heard that line several times but we would hear it no more because that's where we were headed.
Seeley Lake is a small town of about 1,600 between the Mission Mountains and Bob Marshall Wilderness Area about 70 miles from home in western Montana. It's a winter haven for snowmobilers, cross country skiers and other lovers of wintertime fun. In the summer, it's about hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, paddleboarding and other recreational fun. I'd visited Seeley several times and eaten there too but only at burger and ice cream joints after camping in the Mission Mountains.
But on this evening it was about friendship, a beautiful drive along the Blackfoot River corridor and a stop at a lakeside restaurant with one, yes one choice on the menu - a very large menu. Say hello to Lindley's Prime Steak House.
After being seated, the waitress brought out the menu, on its own stand, and placed it just off the edge of our table. There would be no need for my cheater glasses. This sign or placard was super easy to read. Let me make one correction. There are really three choices on the menu - Lindley's prime sirloin, chopped sirloin or prime chopped sirloin. And there was a dinner sharing option, which both couples went for.

Behold, the menu |
So the food started to come and kept coming and coming, first with a specially blended dressing over green salad along with toasted garlic bread in a basket. We were off to a great start. The dinner cart then stopped by and we watched, with great pleasure, large cuts of steak being sliced right before our eyes. Along with the meat, we received a platter of cooked mushrooms, a greaseless hash grown potato platter and sweet pickled watermelon rind in a cup. It was good. I mean, really good. The steak was succulent. I gotta say I'm a sucker for some things and one of them is cooked mushrooms. I made sure to not leave a single one of them on the platter.
To top off the meal, I went for a slice of huckleberry cheese cake. I mean, what's more Montana than huckleberries, right?
A post-dinner walk, if you want to call it that, along the restaurant's outdoor terrace above the lake was a great way to cap things off. That, as well, as a nice long drive back home with friends, with plenty of time to chat it up and digest.
